Standards to go on-line

The British Standards Institution (BSI) has launched the on-line transmission of over 35,000 British standards on the internet, by signing a joint venture with Information Handling Services of Denver, Colorado.

The new company, British Standards Publishing, will bring together the management and development of all on-line services for British standards. IHS says the venture will earn £36m in its first year of operation.

BSI director David Lazenby said: `International standards are essential to global trade. We can now deliver information electronically to organisations worldwide.’
