UK based Pogo Technology is creating a hand-held wireless device that will enable existing mobile phone networks to deliver ‘3G-like’ wireless services prior to the advent of UMTS.
In addition to being a phone, the Pogo product will provide web-browsing functionality. What’s more, it will be equipped with a removable multi media card capable of storing up to 64mb of memory. The Pogo user will be able to record and play music, games, movies, books and more.
Pogo will be a thin-client device which will use an extremely light-weight operating system. It will incorporate Pogo’s patent-pending compression technology to give Pogo users access to the Internet in full-colour whilst on the move.
Pogo Technology’s proprietary compression technology will enable the device to access HTML web content at effective speeds exceeding 56kb/s over GSM. A Flash interface will provide a fun, animated, graphical experience for the Pogo user.
Pogo’s launch will be in the middle of 2001.
