1GHz PowerPC on VME

Thales Computers has announced the availability of a 1GHz version of its PowerEngine7 series of single-board computers.

Thales Computers has announced the availability of a 1GHz version of its PowerEngine7 series of single-board computers (SBCs).

The new PowerEngine7 SBCs feature single or dual PowerPC 750GX processors, operating at 1GHz, providing more than 2320 Dhrystone 2.1 MIPS, and estimated SPECint95 and SPECfp95 values of respectively 52 and 32, while drawing 17.5W.

The new SBC includes up to 512 MB of SDRAM memory and up to 128MB of Flash memory. The performance of the PowerEngine7 is enhanced by the Avignon host bridge system controller, which is optimised for use with the PowerPC processor, as well as the ALMA2e PCI/VME bus bridge, providing the capability for 2eSST transfers.

The PowerEngine7 series features ample I/O, including two PMC slots (one PCI 64 at 66 MHz, one PCI 32 at 33 MHz), two 10/100BASE-T Ethernet interfaces including one 10/100/1000BASE-T, as well as 4 asynchronous and 2 synchronous/asynchronous serial lines. A bridgeless PMC carrier board is available to expand the 64-bit PCI bus on P0 and increase the number of slots to as many as four.

The price of a convection-cooled 1GHz PowerEngine7 with a single PowerPC 750GX processor and 512 MB SDRAM starts at $3,077 per unit in quantities of 100, with discounts for higher volume orders.

Both convection-cooled and conduction-cooled versions of the 1GHz PowerEngine7 are available.
