Pechiney plans to acquire Soplaril

Pechiney and TotalfinaElf have entered the final phase of negotiations for Pechiney to acquire Soplaril, an Atofina subsidiary.

Pechiney and TotalfinaElf have entered the final phase of negotiations for Pechiney to acquire Soplaril, an Atofina subsidiary specialising in the manufacture of complex films, mainly for food packaging.

Soplaril generates annual sales of almost 200 million Euros and has seven production facilities in Europe: three in France (Arras, Moreuil and Dax), two in Italy (Milan and Genova), one in Spain (Saragossa) and one in Portugal (Porto).

Pechiney’s flexible packaging businesses currently have sales of approximately 1 billion Euros, of which 82% is in flexible packaging and 18% in barrier bottles. 78% of its sales in the flexible packaging sector comes from its fifteen US plants.

The six European plants, located in France (Dijon and Froges), Germany (Darmstadt), Spain (Barcelona and Vitoria) and the Czech Republic (Skrivany) represent sales of approximately Euros 200 million. After the acquisition, sales in the European arena are predicted to rise to almost 400 million Euros.
