Bookham Technology is to acquire Ignis Optics, a San Jose, CA-based provider of optical modules for communications networks for $15.5 million in shares.
Ignis Optics designs and manufactures small form-factor pluggable (SFP and XFP) single-mode optical transceivers for optical datacom and telecom networks.
Giorgio Anania, Bookham’s President and Chief Executive Officer, appears intent on diversifying the Bookham business by playing a greater role in the datacom market.
This month, Bookham also acquired New Focus, another San Jose, CA-based company that manufactures tuneable lasers, microwave RF amplifiers, optoelectronics, photonics subsystems and photonic tools.
And earlier in the week, Marconi divulged that it had sold its share holding in Bookham, which was worth £16.75m. Marconi had acquired its share of Bookham in 2002 as consideration against the sale of its optical components business to the company.
