Sharp Corporation’s IC Group claims it has developed the smallest (1.44cc) and thinnest (9.7mm) CCD camera module in the industry.
The LZ0P3721 CCD camera module makes it possible to incorporate mega-pixel-class cameras into mobile phones with minimal changes to the size and thickness of their current form factors.
Another model, the LZ0P3726, allows users to perform close-up photography and 2D bar code reading as well.
The module is comprised of a frame interline transfer (FIT) 1/4′ type mega-pixel-class CCD making it capable of taking pictures with a minimum subject illumination of 2 lux, a DSP for signal processing, a peripheral IC for the CCD, lenses, and passive components.
Sample shipments of both the LZ0P3721 and the LZ0P3726 will begin in September 2003. The products will be available in mass production quantities in October 2003.
