New valve banishes bacteria

Dairy Pipe Lines has developed a new range of non-return valves (NRV) to meet the stringent requirements of hygienic processing.

Following a 12-month R&D programme working in partnership with the food processing industry, valve manufacturer Dairy Pipe Lines has developed a new range of non-return valves (NRV) to meet the stringent requirements of hygienic processing.

The design of the EXOSPRING valve dispenses with the traditional spring assembly in the product flow. Typically, non-return valves have tended to rely on springs or gravity assistance to reset the seat. By their very nature, therefore, piston and flap-type NRVs are essentially non-hygienic, since the springs they contain are potential traps for bacterial growth. Conventional spring operated NRVs also suffer from corrosion problems, particularly when subject to fluids containing a high concentration of chloride.

The product is also self-draining and can therefore be used in a horizontal position.Constructed from 316L stainless steel, EXOSPRING can operate over a range of pressures and is available in six sizes from 25mm – 100mm.

DPL claims that downtime for servicing is reduced because the product can be serviced without removal from the product line.
