Vellum 2000 Raises The Stakes In Surface/Solids Modelling

The latest release of Vellum 2000 increases the number of interactive surface design techniques available, as well as offering a set of edge filleting and blending tools.

Industrial designers tend to need a more versatile combination of surface and solid modelling capability than the average mid-range engineering CAD system provides. Ideally, designers want completely free-form interactive surface design in the context a solid modeller that will produce both photo realistic product visualisations and accurate geometry for the tool-maker, from one package.

The first release of Ashlarís Vellum Solids began to address this issue by integrating surface modelling closely with solids creation, though initially offering a restricted set of surface manipulation facilities. The latest release – Vellum 2000 – increases the number of interactive surface design techniques available, as well as offering a set of edge filleting and blending tools.

With over 300 minor and major enhancements, and based on Version 6.1 of the ACIS solid modelling kernel, Vellum 2000 adds 36 new surface modelling, solid modelling, draughting, visualisation and data translation tools to the designers armoury. Included are first and second order continuity at surface boundaries, a range of global and local surface pulling and tweaking features, updated translators and updated LightWorks rendering and animation.
