Fisher-Rosemount has been awarded a contract by Tyco Control Systems for a DeltaV process automation system, to be used on the Alwyn North platforms on the UK continental shelf.
The project, for TotalFinaElf, involves the replacement of the existing DCS and safety ssytyems on both the Alwyn North A and B platforms. To replace the DCS, Fisher-Rosemount will supply its DeltaV equipment, complete with the associated controllers, analogue and discrete input and output cards, serial interfaces, workstations and power supplies.
This is part of a project to extend the life of this field, following major exploration and development work in this area, which has more than doubled recoverable reserves compared to the original 1987 figures, when Alwyn was brought on stream.
The Tyco Control Systems role will be to design, supply, test and commission the integrated control and safety system and the management information system, following a detailed evaluation of the Alwyn North requirements, and the expected benefits of third generation systems.
The decision to use DeltaV was a joint decision by TotalFinaElf and Tyco, following demonstrations showing its ease of use, scaleability, interfaces to third party equipment, both on the platform and by remote links, and future development direction.
