ABB wins $18 million switchgear contract

ABB announced today that it has won orders worth $18 million to supply medium-voltage gas insulated switchgear for urban metro lines in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, China.

ABB announced today that it has won orders worth $18 million to supply medium-voltage gas insulated switchgear for Guangzhou metro line 3 and Shenzhen metro line 1.

Under the terms of contract, 237 units of 33 kV-GIS switchgears, valued at $11 million, will be delivered to the Guangzhou Metro line 3 project during the first half of 2004. In addition, 152 switchgear units of the same specification valued at $7 million will be supplied to the Shenzhen metro line 1 by September 2003.

ABB Xiamen Switchgear, ABB’s first joint venture in China, will manufacture the switchgear.

The 36.1 km Guangzhou Metro line 3 links the Tianhe, Haizhu and Panyu districts of Guangzhou city and is scheduled for operation in 2006. The 19.5 km Shenzhen metro phase one covering line 1 and line 4 is now under construction and scheduled for completion by the end of 2003.
