Finmeccanica strengthens ties with Libya

Finmeccanica has signed an agreement with the Libyan government to create a joint venture in the sector of electronics for defence and security.

The aim of the joint venture is to develop integrated critical infrastructure surveillance systems, telecommunications and homeland security systems, and integrated postal automation systems.

According to a statement, this new technological and industrial partnership represents a significant development opportunity for the Libyan economy and will enable Finmeccanica to strengthen its presence in the electronics for defence and security in Africa.

Finmeccanica already has an industrial presence in Libya. In January 2006 it signed an agreement, through its subsidiary AgustaWestland, with the Libyan Company for Aviation Industry, to create a joint venture – Libyan Italian Advanced Technology Company – for the purpose of developing aeronautics activities and security systems.
