AREVA buys RMC

French nuclear specialist AREVA has acquired RM Consultants, an Abingdon-headquartered nuclear safety assessment company, for an undisclosed sum

French nuclear specialist AREVA has acquired RM Consultants (RMC), an Abingdon-headquartered nuclear safety assessment company, for an undisclosed sum.

AREVA said the acquisition would reinforce its presence in the UK, where the group plans to strengthen its industrial base. AREVA currently employs 1,800 people in the UK from six industrial sites run by its Transmission and Distribution division.

According to AREVA, the purchase of RMC will strengthen its know-how in the field of nuclear safety and environmental risks analysis. RMC has supplied specialised services to the major nuclear organisations for over 30 years. The company also provides AREVA with knowledge of the regulatory bodies and procedures which govern nuclear activities in the UK.

François-Xavier Rouxel, AREVA’s senior vice president for strategy, said: ‘The acquisition of RMC demonstrates our ambition to play an active role in the UK’s nuclear renaissance. RMC’s expertise will allow AREVA to offer solutions which are tailored to the needs of its British partners.’
