Cobham buys MMI Research

Aerospace and defence systems company Cobham, headquartered in Wimborne, Dorset, has bought MMI Research for a total consideration of £13.6m.

MMI supplies the law enforcement and national security (LENS) markets with specialist cellular telecommunications technology for international law enforcement, military and intelligence agencies. Cobham said it would be an excellent technological fit with its existing LENS capabilities and would provide equipment to a number of Cobham’s existing customers as well as broadening the customer base.

A further payment of £3m will be payable by 2010, dependant on the ongoing performance of the company. Hampshire-based MMI employs 20 people and will become part of the Cobham Avionics and Surveillance Division.

Allan Cook, Cobham chief executive, said: ‘We are very pleased to have MMI join the Cobham team with its distinctive technologies and specialist customer base. The combination of MMI’s complementary technologies and Cobham’s scale and market reach will strengthen our capabilities in the growing surveillance market.’
