Nexans has been awarded a contract worth approximately €24m by StatoilHydro to supply the submarine export cables for the Sherringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm. The contract is subject to offshore development consent from the UK government and a final investment decision.
The scope of the project includes engineering, procurement and construction of two 22km 145kV XLPE submarine export cables, a spare cable with associated equipment and an optical fibre cable. The power cables will be manufactured at Nexans’ factory in Norway for delivery in April 2010.
The wind farm located off the Norfolk coast covers an area of 35km2 and is in shallow water, averaging 20m in depth. If sanctioned, it will be developed with 88 wind turbine generators, with a unit rating of 3.6MW. The turbines will be connected via a network of infield cables to two offshore substations.
The total generation capacity will be 315MW and in an average year approximately 1.1TWh of power will be exported. The completion and production start-up of the wind farm is planned for 2011.
