The TX4E is an all-electric version of the Manganese Bronze TX4 black cab and will have a top speed of 50mph. It will have a range in excess of 100 miles on one battery charge and is specifically designed for taxi operations in congested areas.
It will be powered by Tanfield’s advanced electric drive train and an Iron Phosphate lithium-ion battery pack. The estimated cost is less than 4p per mile to run, providing savings over an equivalent diesel vehicle.
The target date for launch is 2009, following engineering assessments and customer testing.
Tanfield Group chief executive Darren Kell said: ‘We can offer a truly global product that answers many of the answers many of the issues raised by urban private passenger transport – rising fuel costs, air pollution and greenhouse emissions.’
