Manchester-based RTS Flexible Systems has received the Salford Business Award for Innovation.
The company provides high-speed vision-guided pick and place robotics for product handling and packaging in the food, medical and consumer packaged goods markets.
The Salford Award recognises RTS’ developments in robotic gripper design including a system that enables a robot to pick fragile cooked poppadums without breaking them.
The company’s software and controls are said to provide fully integrated systems that enable picking robots to react to the flow of products on a production line and to use vision systems to reject sub-standard products.
‘We encourage innovative and agile thinking in our business and we are constantly exploring the boundaries of what is possible,’ said RTS MD, David Bradford. ‘As a result we have developed market-leading expertise in a range of technologies needed to deliver complex solutions for our customers in a way which makes them easy to use.’
