The Department for Transport (DfT) has announced the appointment of Jacobs Engineering UK as the project representative for London’s Crossrail project.

The project representative team will be tasked with supporting Crossrail’s sponsors – the DfT and Transport for London (TfL) – by reviewing reports, programmes and technical designs to ensure that the scheme is delivered on time and within budget.

Crossrail is Europe‘s largest construction project and is expected to generate £20bn and 30,000 jobs. It will run 118km from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west, through new twin-bore 21km tunnels under central London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.

Crossrail is scheduled to open in 2017, bringing an additional 1.5 million people within a 60-minute commuting distance of London’s key business districts.
