BIW to support DDG 1001 construction

Full-service shipyard Bath Iron Works (BIW) has received a $15.9m (£10.3m) contract modification from the US Navy to provide long-lead material and engineering, production and related support services associated with the construction of the DDG 1001 ship.

Work covered by this modification is expected to be completed by July 2010.

BIW, a subsidiary of defence company General Dynamics, is the lead designer and builder for the US Navy’s DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class programme.
