Cobham to upgrade UK MoD systems

Aerospace and defence systems developer Cobham will upgrade and support key air-traffic-control systems and operations for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) through to at least 2015, after being awarded three contracts totalling £12m.

The contracts include the Watchman Radar Viewing Unit and Airfield Radar Integration projects – where Cobham will continue to support existing installed equipment – and the Radar Remoting and Combining project.

Under the Radar Remoting and Combining project, Cobham will replace legacy systems with its RDSTrack product and provide support.

Intended to be fully operational in March 2011, the system will enable access to surveillance data from remote sites for the purpose of providing air-traffic control, Royal Navy Fighter control and range-safety services.
