Signalling Solutions wins modernisation contract

Network Rail, the main operator of rail infrastructure in the UK, has awarded Signalling Solutions, a joint venture equally held by Alstom Transport and Balfour Beatty Rail, a contract worth €40m (£35m) to modernise the signalling of 105km of track in east Kent, UK.

Alstom’s Smartlock solution, to be housed in the new Gillingham signalling centre, is slated for start-up in December 2011 and will equip seven signal boxes.

Signalling Solutions will design, manufacture, install, test and start up the new signalling system, while also making the necessary improvements to the existing infrastructure.
