Wärtsilä to provide large gas engine plant

Wärtsilä, a Finnish manufacturer of large diesel and gas engines, has signed a €120m (£104m) contract to supply and install what will become the largest gas engine power plant in Africa.

The order for the plant, which will be located in Kribi in the Gulf of Guinea coast in the Republic of Cameroon, has been placed by the independent power producer Kribi Power Development.

The scope of supply includes Wärtsilä 18V50DF dual-fuel engines that will run primarily on gas.

The electricity generated by the plant, which is scheduled to be operational before the end of 2011, will be fed to the national grid.
