Tata Steel awards Fluor gas-fired power plant contract

EPCM provider Fluor has been awarded a six-month early engineering works contract by Tata Steel for a new production gas-fired power plant to be built at IJmuiden in The Netherlands.

Fluor will book the undisclosed-value contract in the first quarter of 2011 and the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) phase is expected to commence at the end of 2011.

The 350MW power plant will take waste process gas from the adjacent Tata Steel mill as fuel to produce electric power and steam that will be fed back to the steel plant.

The award follows the completion of configuration studies for Tata Steel at the end of last year, which evaluated a number of boiler and steam turbine arrangements.
