The US Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation’s Ship Systems sector a $42.3 million cost-plus contract option for services to the DDG 51 Class Aegis destroyer program.
The award represents the third option of a multiyear contract that was awarded to the company last year to build four destroyers.
Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will provide services including the design of Aegis destroyer upgrades, planning and technical support.
The company will also help provide baseline upgrade work and specific research and development efforts.
Northrop Grumman has delivered 18 destroyers to the Navy, with 10 ships remaining to be built. Northrop Grumman Ship Systems recently christened its 21st Aegis destroyer James E. Williams (DDG 95), and began construction on DDG 100 in January, marking the beginning of the company’s 24th ship.
