ABB awarded automation technologies contract

ABB has been awarded two orders worth $28 million from Norsk Hydro for automation technologies to support the Ormen Lange gas field off the coast of Norway.

ABB will provide automation, safety, and information management systems to help control and improve the flow of compressed natural gas through a 1,200 kilometre-long pipeline to the United Kingdom.

ABB engineers will conduct configuration and application programming in co-operation with the Ormen Lange engineering team. When the pipeline becomes operational in 2007, about 20 percent of Norway’s natural gas exports will be delivered through the link.

The current work, based on Hydro frame agreements, represents ABB’s second major award for the Ormen Lange project in three months. In May, ABB announced a $22 million order to provide electrical drive systems for an onshore gas processing plant that will support the gas field.
