Spreadtrum announces quarterly revenue

Spreadtrum Communications, a Chinese wireless baseband chipset provider, has revealed that, in the second quarter ending on 30 June 2010, total revenue increased 37 per cent quarter over quarter and 34.1 per cent year over year to $71.4m (£45.7m).

Gross profit was $31.9m, compared with $23.7m in the previous quarter and $3.8m in the prior-year quarter, while gross margin was 44.6 per cent, compared with 45.5 per cent in the previous quarter and 23.6 per cent in the second quarter of 2009.

GAAP net income was $11.1m, or $0.21 per diluted share, compared with a net income of $6.6m, or $0.13 per basic share, in the previous quarter and a net loss of $13.1m, or $0.29 per basic share, in the prior-year quarter.

Non-GAAP net income was $17.7m, or $0.34 per basic share, compared with a net income of $8.7m, or $0.17 per basic share, in the first quarter of 2010 and a net loss of $7.5m, or $0.16 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2009.
