Energy minister agrees to new InterGen gas power plant

Energy minister Charles Hendry will today give the go-ahead for InterGen’s proposals to construct a new 900MW gas power plant at the London Gateway Logistics Park, Coryton, Essex.

The plans are for a new £600m power station, comprising up to two CCGT generating units with around 450MW capacity each.

This brings the total new capacity consented to by the government since May 2010 to 5,456MW — enough to power more than seven million homes if developed.
