Omnexus, the global eMarketplace created by the plastics industry, and Elemica, the network founded by twenty two of the world’s largest chemical companies have formed a strategic alliance.
Under the terms of the alliance, the two will work together to leverage the technology each has developed. The result will be a series of solutions for buyers and sellers in both the chemical and plastics industries.
Each company will continue to function independently; however, each will become the technology provider to the other to deliver both the eProcurement and integration capabilities that are needed by their respective clients. Omnexus currently consists of a list of more than twenty global suppliers, including Atofina, BASF AG, Bayer AG, Biesterfeld, Clariant, Demag Ergotech, Distrupol, Dow Chemical, DSM, DuPont, Engel, Entec, Muehlstein, Performance Polymers, PolyOne, Resinex and Ravago, Solvay and Ticona.
The Omnexus solution provides a single point of connectivity for plastics processors and suppliers and is a method of eProcurement. Omnexus is currently operational in North America and Europe and will service Asia and the rest of the world by 2002.
For its part, Elemica is a global information network built to facilitate the order processing and supply chain management of contract and repeat chemical transactions.
The company offers a suite of products that enables buyers and sellers of chemicals to streamline their business processes and collaborate to achieve substantial savings.
Central to Elemica’s product suite is the Elemica Connected Solution that allows companies to connect to Elemica’s secure global network. Commercial ERP-connected transactions on the Elemica Network began on June 11, 2001.
With the Connected Solution as the core, Elemica has developed a suite of integrated products that include Elemica Web Solutions and Elemica Supply Chain Solutions.
The growing Elemica Network was created through the efforts and funding of Air Products and Chemicals, Atofina, BASF, Bayer, BP, Brenntag, Celanese, Chemcentral, Ciba Specialty Chemicals, Degussa, The Dow Chemical Company, DSM, DuPont, Millennium Chemicals, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Mitsui Chemicals, Rhodia, Rohm and Haas, Shell, Solvay, Sumitomo Chemical and Vopak.
