Bombardier Transportation today received a 69 million Euro order from Vienna’s local operator Wiener Linien for the construction of 38 low-floor light rail vehicles.

Bombardier Transportation today received an order from Vienna’s local operator Wiener Linien for the construction of 38 low-floor light rail vehicles (LRVs).

The contract has a total value of 91 million Euros, with Bombardier’s share estimated at some 69 million Euros. The contract also includes an option for a further 42 LRVs. Bombardier Transportation will deliver the LRVs for Line U6 between 2006 and 2008.

The vehicles will be built at Bombardier Transportation’s production facilities in Vienna, with Vossloh Kiepe assuming responsibility for the electrical equipment.

The technical specifications and advantages of the new light rail vehicles will be presented at a joint event with Wiener Linien in January next year.
