Superconductive success for Zenergy

Zenergy Power has announced a milestone of having successfully produced a 10m length of its second generation HTS wire using a patented process

Zenergy Power has announced a milestone of having successfully produced a 10m length of its Second Generation (2G) HTS wire using its patented all-chemical mass production process.

London headquartered Zenergy is a specialist manufacturer and developer of commercial applications for high-temperature superconductive (`HTS‘) materials.

Funded by a recent grant from the German Ministry of Economics and Technology, Zenergy‘s all-chemical production processes are being developed with a view to marketing economically viable superconductor materials.

The company hopes this achievement will contribute towards the production of a new generation of highly energy efficient HTS power generators for the global wind and small hydro markets, which are being developed with its collaborative partner, Converteam SAS. Based around Zenergy‘s HTS coils and components, Zenergy anticipates that these generators will be capable of delivering reductions of around 25 per cent to the overall cost of producing offshore wind power.

Zeneca also hopes to contribute to the government‘s offshore wind power generation ambitions. Converteam SAS has recently been involved in a Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) project to develop an 8MW direct-drive wind power generator based on Zenergy‘s HTS coils and components.
