Telematics technology and service provider Trakm8 has been awarded £1.1m by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) to be the lead industry partner in the Trusted Road Usage and Emissions Profiling Project (TRU-EP).
Shaftesbury, Dorset headquartered Trakm8 has a continuing interest in road tolling, congestion charging and vehicle workplace safety. The company said it believes the associated vehicle telematics market has potential for growth.
TRU-EP is a £2.9m three-year project consisting of development resources, hardware and associated costs with total grant funding of £1.45m in cash, half of which is funded by the TSB. The project will be undertaken in collaboration with automotive diagnostics company Omitec.
The project aims to meet a number of the key innovation challenges for telematics identified by the Department for Transport (DfT). The TRU-EP project will develop technology for measuring and monitoring vehicle emissions, provide research into the functionality and technical application of the European eCall initiative and develop techniques and methods of monitoring and measuring driver behaviour.
