Prysmian wins Inelfe electrical interconnection contract

Energy and telecommunications company Prysmian Cables & Systems has been awarded a contract worth more than €90m (£76.4m) for a new electrical interconnection between France and Spain.

The link will be realised for Inelfe, a 50:50 joint venture between the Spanish grid operator Red Electrica de España (REE) and French grid operator Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE).

Classified as a Priority Project by the EU, the line will substantially increase the transmission capacity between France and Spain, thus improving diversification of sources and security of supply, as well as enhancing electricity-market integration in south-western Europe.

The project is scheduled to start construction mid 2011, with completion due by mid 2014.
