Defence and security company Saab has received two contracts with a total value of SRK194m (£15m) from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) covering the upgrade of the heavyweight Torpedo 62 system and support for underwater weapon systems.
The upgrade of the Torpedo 62 comprises new and improved functions for communication and warhead initiation, providing an important capability enhancement for the system.
The Torpedo 62 is an advanced heavyweight torpedo for combating surface targets. The torpedo is equipped with an advanced propulsion system capable of high speed and long endurance together with a sophisticated homing system.
Deliveries according to these contracts will take place during the period 2013–16.
