Statoil set to develop Mariner oilfield in the UK North Sea

Energy company Statoil has announced that it plans to develop the Mariner oilfield in the UK North Sea.

The project entails investments of more than $7bn (£4.3bn) and the Mariner oilfield is reportedly the largest new offshore development in the UK in more than a decade.

According to Mike Tholen, Oil & Gas UK’s economics director, Mariner requires pioneering technology and will bring hundreds of highly skilled, long-lasting jobs to the country, as well as hundreds of millions of pounds in additional tax revenues and crucial security to UK energy supplies.
