European transport goes for electronic ink

E Ink and Vossloh System-Technik have agreed to jointly develop electronic ink-based systems for the European transportation industry.

Cambridge, MA-based E Ink and Vossloh System-Technik, a German supplier of mobile and stationary passenger information systems, have agreed to jointly develop electronic ink-based systems for the European transportation industry.

Under the terms of the agreement, E Ink will produce custom electronic ink display cells based on its new character and segmented display technology.

Vossloh will develop the electronics and integrate the display cells into signage for the rail, bus and air travel markets. The two companies will commercialise the signs in the near future.

Electronic ink displays are thin and lightweight and require up to 500 times less power when compared to displays and monitors that are typically used in the transportation industry.
