Alstom wins hydro power contract

Alstom has won a 50 million Euro order to supply Jaiprakash Power Ventures, India with equipment for a new hydro power plant.

Alstom has won a 50 million Euro order to supply Jaiprakash Power Ventures, India (JPVL) with equipment for a new 4 x 100 MW Vishnuprayag hydro power plant.

The plant is to be built on the Alaknanda river in Uttaranchal state, where civil works are said to be at an advanced stage.

Alstom will supply and supervise erection of turbines, governing systems, spherical valves, butterfly valves, generators, static excitation system, bus ducts and computerised power plant control and monitoring systems.

Alstom’s manufacturing facilities in Grenoble and Belfort, France, and in India will supply the equipment and components.

On completion in December 2006, the Vishnuprayag hydro power plant is expected to meet the increasing demand for electricity in northern India.
