The Royal Jordanian Air Force has signed a $45 million contract with EADS CASA for the purchase of two C-295 military transport aircraft.

The Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) has signed a $45 million contract with EADS CASA for the purchase of two C-295 military transport aircraft. Deliveries are expected throughout 2003.

The RJAF will be the third operator of C-295s, after the Spanish Air Force, which has bought nine C-295s and the Polish Air Force, which has bought eight.

Twelve EADS CASA C-295s have also been selected by the Brazilian Air Force, whilst two C-295s have been chosen by the Swiss Air Force. The UEA Navy has opted for four C-295 Maritime Patrol Aircraft.

According to EADS, the versatile C-295 was designed to carry out logistic transportation of troops and materials as well as tactical missions. The aircraft can carry up to 71 troops, five 88 inch x108 inch standard pallets or up to 24 stretchers for medical evacuation.
