Tram order nets Alstom 90 million Euros

Grenoble’s transport authority, SMTC, has placed a 90 million Euro contract with Alstom for the supply of 35 Citadis trams. These trams are for a third line that will operate in Grenoble, south east France.

The third line will run from the train station in Gières, east of Grenoble, to Seyssins on the west, serving five municipalities and Grenoble’s university area.

It is anticipated that 38,000 passengers per day will travel on this new line. The new 40-meter Citadis trams will each have a capacity of 274 passengers.

Alstom will build the new trams at its facilities in Aytré, near La Rochelle, France. Delivery is expected to begin early in 2005, with commercial service to start in 2006.
