Chevron has appointed AMEC as its Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) services contractor for a multi-million pound revamp of a fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) at its Pembroke oil refinery.

The FCCU currently feeds 90,000 barrels per day.

Starting immediately, AMEC will undertake design and engineering up to project sanction stage, after which it will carry out detailed engineering, procurement and construction management.

AMEC’s design work involves the development of the licensed process designs and early stage studies from process technology companies UOC and KBC. The project will improve the reliability of the main fractionator, and with modifications to the FCCU to improve product yield.

AMEC has undertaken three previous FCCU revamps at the Pembroke refinery.
