Brazilian radar contract for Thales

The Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira) and Thales have signed two turnkey contracts with a value of €60m for the modernisation of 26 air traffic control radars.

Under the terms of the deal, Thales will provide the Brazilian Air Force with 17 solid-state S Band transceivers and nine solid-state L Band transceivers. The five-year contracts correspond to the third phase of the modernisation programme undertaken by the Brazilian Air Force in 2001.

The Brazilian Air Force said that this final modernisation phase would enable its services to benefit from new technology while preserving service continuity.

Thanks to Thales’ participation in Omnisys, a Brazil-based company, the new L band transmitter will be manufactured in Brazil. Fully integrated Thales‘ and Omnisys’ teams will jointly lead the development.
