Rockwell Collins to supply 747-8 avionics

Rockwell Collins is to provide the displays, autopilot, communication, navigation, surveillance, maintenance, emergency and data management systems for Boeing’s 747-8 family of aircraft.

Rockwell Collins is to provide the displays, autopilot, communication, navigation, surveillance, maintenance, emergency and data management systems for Boeing’s 747-8 family of aircraft, due to enter into service in late 2009.

The avionics suite includes the WXR-2100 MultiScan Hazard Detection System, a radar that analyses and determines actual weather hazards, not simply atmospheric moisture content.

The display system, incorporating Rockwell Collins DU-7001 LCD displays, will be upgraded to include an electronic checklist with cursor control panel, navigation performance scales and vertical situation displays.

The autopilot and navigation systems will be enhanced with GPS landing system functionality.

The contract includes the supply of the communication management unit, satellite communications system, VHF and HF transceivers, VHF omnidirectional radio, and distance measuring equipment.
