Bright screen has longer life

The much-anticipated 15in Industrial TFT panel from Siemens exploits proven technology technology transposed to a XGA product.

The much-anticipated 15in Industrial TFT panel from Siemens exploits the technology the company developed for its 10.4in wide temperature high brightness TFT but transposed to a XGA product.

The display panel features 500 cd/sqm luminance and an operating temperature range of -10 to +70(C. The mean time to half brightness is approximately 35,000 hours, comparable to genuine industrial TFTs with only 200-250cd/sqm. Non industrial TFT panels have lifetimes more usually around 15,000hours mean time to half brightness.

As an aside, it might be worth noting that the brighter the panel, the less often it will need to be run at maximum brightness. Hence the useful life in the field before the first service call to change the backlight will be longer because of this. The value of this of course is especially important where the LCD is used in a remote location, or where downtime is critical.

The new panel suits rugged applications such as in cab use where brightness and wide dimming ratio are vital, outdoor information display and kiosks, especially ticketing and marine instrumentation and direction finding, where both the brightness and safe extended temperature operation are equally essential

The range is available in the UK from Trident Displays.
