EDS announced at the London Boat Show 2001 that it will sponsor the Atlantic Challenge, a yachting event designed specifically for professional crews sailing high performance Open 60 yachts.
Open 60s are technologically advanced mono-hulls which are highly responsive, long-distance, short-handed racing capable of speeds in excess of 30 knots and daily runs of more than 350 miles.
The race, which starts on July 7 from St. Malo, France, provides EDS with significant new opportunities to build global brand equity and market awareness. Pictured here, Don Uzzi, EDS senior vice president, Global Advertising, Marketing, and Communications, commented: ‘The competitive aspects of the event strongly reflect our approach to business, using a combination of innovation, speed, agility, urgency and teamwork.’
Sir Chay Blyth, executive chairman of the Challenge Business, stated: ‘Our aspiration is to build the EDS Atlantic Challenge into a race that ranks alongside the very best that sailing can offer. We intend to bring it to as many people across Europe and in the USA as possible.’
The EDS Atlantic Challenge will be run in five separate legs over 60 days, covering more than 10,000 miles and finishing back in St. Malo around September 5.
