Marconi to modernise rail communications

Marconi today announced that it has been awarded a multimillion Euro contract to modernise the communications network at Lübeck, Germany for Deutsche Bahn, the German national railway company.

Marconi today announced that it has been awarded a new, multimillion Euro contract to modernise the communications network at Lübeck, Germany for Deutsche Bahn, the German national railway company.

Marconi will install ESTW (elektronische Stellwerke), a rail communication system at the forefront of Deutsche Bahn’s telecommunications infrastructure programme.

As the general contractor on the project, Marconi will also be responsible for the supply, build, installation and commissioning of its own multiplex technology, as well as third party systems and project management.

The contract includes telecommunications equipment, power supply, monitoring and messaging equipment, cabling, radio equipment and public address systems.

The contract also includes the completion of all necessary civil engineering services, including cabling, and the building of masts and outdoor housing for cable and radio systems.

The new network is due to go live by October 2003 with the overall project scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2004.
