Chinese petrochemical firms turn to ABB

ABB said today that it has won orders worth more than $41 million to supply switchgear and transformer products to two major Chinese petrochemical companies.

ABB said the equipment would ensure reliable power supply and help boost production at petrochemical plants run by CNOOC-Shell Petrochemical Company Ltd, and Shanghai SECCO Petrochemical Company Ltd.

Under the terms of the contract, ABB will supply medium and low-voltage switchgear, distribution transformers, and SCADA power monitoring systems for the petrochemical plants.

Most of the equipment will be manufactured by ABB factories in China. All deliveries will be completed by mid-2004.

Today’s orders follow a number of petrochemical plant contracts in China in recent years. In mid-2003, ABB won a $123 million from Shanghai SECCO Petrochemical Company Ltd to develop part of a new petrochemical complex.
