Pack it in Russia

Alcan is to invest $55 million building and equipping two new packaging plants around Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia.

The Moscow site will focus on producing flexible packaging for confectionery and dairy products, while the St. Petersburg site will be dedicated to the production of tobacco cartons.

Alcan will invest approximately $25 million to build and equip the food packaging facility with equipment to support print, lamination and die-cutting, while $30 million will be spent developing carton production lines at the tobacco packaging plant.

More than 100 people will be employed in the food packaging plant and 120 in the tobacco packaging facility once they come on stream before before the end of April 2006.
