Rolling in Romania

Bombardier Transportation has received a $144 million order from Metrorex in Romania to supply 20 six-car MOVIA metro trains for the Bucharest Metro.


Bombardier Transportation announced yesterday that it received an order from Metrorex in Romania to supply 20 six-car MOVIA metro trains for the Bucharest Metro.


Valued approximately at $144 million US (110 million Euros), the contract calls for the design, manufacture and delivery of the new cars. The new cars will operate on lines one and three of the Bucharest Metro. First deliveries are expected in 2006.


Bogie production and assembly of flat pack carbodies will take place in Germany at Bombardier’s Siegen and Görlitz plants respectively.


The IGBT propulsion will be manufactured in Bombardier’s Vasteras plant in Sweden. Final assembly of the cars will be completed in Craiova, Romania by Bombardier’s local partner Electroputere.


Funding for this new order will be shared equally between Metrorex and the European Investment Bank.
