One of the largest food retailers in the US has ordered Sterilox food safety systems for its retail network from PuriCore, the life sciences company whose UK headquarters are in Staffordshire.
Under the terms of the agreement, the retailer, who has not been named, will purchase approximately 750 Sterilox systems, representing half of its stores, in 2008. PuriCore expects to commence installation next month and complete installation of the systems in the second half of this year.
Currently, more than 20 US supermarket chains, including two of the five largest, use Sterilox food safety systems in fruit, vegetable and seafood counters to protect against cross contamination of infectious pathogens. The systems also enhance the freshness of perishables.
The Sterilox system is a natural food-safe sanitiser using only salt, water, and electricity. The company says it is highly effective at killing harmful pathogens and spoilage organisms such as E.coli, salmonella, norovirus, psuedomonas, yeast, and moulds. When used on fresh food, the Sterilox Solution reduces the risk of infectious pathogens and enhances the product shelf life.
