Intertek buys EMIS

International industrial quality and safety company Intertek Group has acquired Aberdeen-based Electrical Mechanical Instrument Services UK (EMIS)

International industrial quality and safety company Intertek Group has acquired Aberdeen-based Electrical Mechanical Instrument Services UK (EMIS) for £900,000.

EMIS provides calibration services to the oil and gas industries at offshore and on-shore oil and gas fields and laboratory sites in the UK, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Calibration of instruments is critical in the oil and gas sector, particularly during exploration and production (E&P) stages to assess and analyse flow and yield, and identification of hydrocarbons and raw products. EMIS’ customers include E&P companies, major oil companies and related service customers in the upstream sector.

Intertek said the acquisition would allow it to increase the penetration of its existing calibration and other upstream services to the industry in Europe and the Middle East. The acquisition will form part of Intertek’s Analytical Services division.

Wolfhart Hauser, chief executive officer of Intertek, said: ‘EMIS’ relationships and support to oil and gas clients in the UK and the Middle East, coupled with Intertek’s global footprint, existing relationships and services in this sector will create a compelling and integrated global calibration solution for this industry.’
