Marine electronics agreement

Software Radio Technology, a company which develops digital wireless communications technology, has signed an OEM distribution agreement with Marine Electronics Systems.

Software Radio Technology (SRT), a Bath-based company which develops digital wireless communications technology, has signed an OEM distribution agreement with Marine Electronics Systems (MES).

MES, which has already placed an initial order under the agreement, is a Bristol-based distributor of marine electronics with a strong and growing sales network in the UK and Europe. Under the agreement SRT will provide MES with OEM Automatic Identification System (AIM) products for distribution and sale under the MES and Digital Yacht brands.

AIS systems allow accurate identification and location of maritime traffic, providing safety and security benefits to mariners and agencies such as the coastguard and life boat services.

During 2007, SRT announced an agreement to supply the RNLI and the first national mandate for AIS was announced by Turkey, which required up to 35,000 vessels to be fitted with AIS. Further national mandates are expected to follow.
