Acquisition of Remote Energy Monitoring helps GE go green

American conglomerate GE has acquired Remote Energy Monitoring, a manufacturer of software and hardware technologies that allow consumers and utilities to monitor and manage their energy usage.

This acquisition enhances GE’s ability to address the EU’s goals for a lower-emission, higher-efficiency energy infrastructure.

Remote Energy Monitoring’s metering systems, which are approved by UK regulators, have a modular design that makes them field upgradeable, enabling utilities to integrate new capabilities in the future without the time and expense of switching out meters.

Following the transaction’s close on 11 January 2011, the entire Remote Energy Monitoring technology and support team joined GE yet remain at the company’s headquarters in Tring, Hertfordshire, UK.
